Nope. Its got everything to do with proving you can get it done without using the "magic bait". And getting it done through presentation and action. Thats where the real thrill occurs in catching a fish. Convincing a fish to eat a piece of metal or plastic through presentation alone. That for me is the ultimate.

I thought a gold spoon was the magic bait ? I struggle with either, but I have caught'em on a Culprit Worm (tequilla). 8)

Don't pull them off the shelf just yet CT !!!!

GULP is a finesse bait. It takes skill to catch a GULP fish.
Anyone can CHUNK and WIND.

The way I hear it. You chunk out the GULP, sit down , eat a ham sandwich, (or a honey bun and polish sausage) then pick up your rod and reel in the ladyfish.

There are times the fish will strike at almost anything, and there are times when is does not matter what bait or jig you are using, they just won't bite.

now I'm nowhere near the expert some of these guys are, but I have yet to use Gulp or live bait. Not that I wouldn't, just haven't. I like to trick a Redfish, trout whatever into eating something that looks nothing like it normally eats (spoon) or topwater plug. Whens the last time you found a 6"+ mullet in a Red's gut. I never have. most of the shrimp I have seen in there gut haven't been much bigger than an inch or two and lots of crabs though.

Now trout....I don't know nothing bout catching trout.

LAST YEAR WE LOST ONE AT THE BOAT THAT WAS THE GRANDADY OF ALL TROUT. HE HAD SWALLOWED 3/4 OF 14" TROUT THAT WAS CAUGHT ON A GULP. HE WOULDNT FIT IN THE NET AND WAS LOST. WE NEVER EVEN SAW THE BACK HALF OF THE FISH.

LESSONS LEARNED:
1.) GET BIGGER NET.
2.) SOMEONE IN THE BOAT SHOULD BE FISHING BIGGER BAITS
3.) REEL SMALL TROUT IN SLOW.
