Has any of you guys or gals every done any fishing in Belize? I will be there in mid November and would like to do some. Any info on Rooster fish and Bone fish would be great

better check out how bad Dean messed it up down there.

I fished there about 5 years ago in July, stayed on Ambergris Caye (San Pedro). Two days tarpon fishing on the ocean side, two days tarpon/bone/permit fishing and fly fishing on the sound side. All of it was incredible. I used guides recommended by the manager of my $28/night hotel (Coral Beach Hotel, it's now up to about $50/night) and they were great, averaged about $100 for a pretty full day (sun-up 'til about 1). Check out a snorkle trip to Hol Chan, it's a protected marine reserve with an amazing variety of reef fish.

Was there for my honeymoon the third week in May. First, you don't want to stay on the mainland, still pretty third world. The places to stay are Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker or Turniffe Island. All of which seem to have been hit hard by Dean; the first two were mandatory evacs.

We stayed at the Portofino Resort on Ambergris Caye which was a great honeymoon, but probably not the best fishing outfitter. If going on a fishing trip I would check out either El Pesador (on Ambergris Caye) or the Turniffe Resort (next to Turniffe Attol).

While there we saw tarpoon, snook, bonefish and permit. Roosterfish isn't very likely despite what you read online. Think PR or CR if Roosers are your goal. We also caught grouper, snapper and triggers of the reef (less that 10 ' of water and kayakable from shore)

Small bones are everywhere, I even caught them out of kayaks and from the beach at the resort. Larger ones are tougher to find. Tarpoon are either in the rivers or north in Turniffe. Snook are mostly in rivers
