I struck out and headed west this morning...Thinking I would have the place to myself...Arrived at the ramp and I wasn't by myself

Slide the boat into the water and headed off to the west...stopped at my fly fishing bank to check things out....I wasn't there two minutes when this arse in a yellow boat stops down wind from me on the bank I was gonna fish  :smt013 ...Then I watched him catch two fish :hammer: :hammer: .

I moved about a mile down the bank and caught several small trout, had one keeper on for a few seconds....Had a monster blowup on topwater, line peeled off the reel at a high rate of speed...fish jumped....I believe it was a small king :o  ...It threw the hook....It was shaped like a mackerel, but real thick, too thick for a spanish...It shredded my 20 lb leader...twas fun while it lasted.

Moved on down the bank looking for a quite place to fish...didn't find a spot....finally found a spot clear across the bay....I come off plane to find clear shallow water, mullet moving and some wakes in the distance...I climb up on my perch and ease down the bank...I see a wake and the tell tell specks of white and orange...one spoon deployed down range...spoon tracks in front of the target.....target locks on target :o FISH ON :smt007 A nice 23" red released to fight again another day.

I put away the baitcaster and pulled out the long pole with a Baboon in tan and pearl tied on...It didn't take long to see an orange silhouette sliding towards me...I made a couple of casts at the fish but it wasn't impressed with my offering....Another pair of fish comes down the bank...I cast to the fish....no takers

I was in a place that has a sand bar running parallel along the bank....when I arrived I could see water all along the bar....by now I see alot of grass....I wanted to stay in there and fish but I almost didn't make it out, glad I left

Headed even further west and stopped short of where I normally run...glad I did cause the water was gone...played around some schools of mullet, had one good topwater hit...fish took alot of line off the reel then the hook pulled :smt013 ...suspect it was an overslot red...I have seen and hooked several in the same area.

Clouds building over the gulf, rain falling between me and the gulf...I head back east....stop to fly fish one more time....thunder in the distance...it starts raining...rain clouds all around...low tide in an hour...time to put it on the trailer.

All in all not a bad day...caught fish, saw fish...maybe tomorrow will be better :-D

Good read & report. How much is fly fishing about believing it should happen?
I know I can catch fish with other gear and I do. But the fly rod is just once in a while that something good happens.
???

Someone on this forum likes to say fly fishing is what you do when you feel that you have caught enough fish...That same person doesn't fish much, he now hunts the fish and shoots them :o

I like to hunt, I like to fish...I get both with fly fishing, I guess it's the Tred Barta in me.

As long as the fly rod is put away, it will never happen...I had three shots today...I hope I have three more tomorrow.

good play by play. At least for me, fly fishing has been a humbling experience so far. I can see why those guys on some of the TV shows get all jacked up when they hook a nice one on the fly.
