Labor Day on the Bay (PC)
Posted: September 3rd, 2007, 10:37 pm
Dad and I got out this morning and decided to give it the ol' college try. Between work and my wife recovering from surgery I haven't been able to fish in a while. I was itching to go. I was especially wanting to target a fish I have never caught, Redfish. We usually go for trout. We got in the Grady and headed to West Bay. It looked for a while like it was going to be business as usual; Dad taking me to school. We caught a good number of trout but he had the only keeper of the day. Mine were all shorts.

I pulled in one of my "bigger" trout and said jokingly, "How big do you think this one goes?" Dad answered, "Not as big as mine." As I was casting back out I said, "It ain't over yet." As soon as my bait hit, the water exploded. I waited a second, set the hook and it was off to the races. He would have spooled me but we chased him down. It was just a matter of my 12# line holding after that.
It did. We put him in the boat, took the pictures and released him.
MY FIRST RED (cue the cheesy music)

I have to give credit where it is due:
Chalk - thanks for advice, wish you could have boated the second bull red that was with this one when he hit.
My Wife - thanks for the kitchen pass.
