Well we headed out at sunrise again. Dang sure can feel the seasons thinkin about changing; the ride out the channel was a little chilly with the sun just coming up and a steady light wind.
The morning bite was weak today compared to yesterday, at least for us, around the river mouth. We headed over to little pass area and ended up getting stuck up there in the freak low tide. We caught several fish over there, but nothing good. It was all catfish, large pinfish, stingrays and other garbage. Of course the boat fishing about 100 feet from us pulled in a couple nice reds and a good jack while we watched. We had to both jump out of the boat and push for quite a ways outside the pass to get in water deep enough for the motor. A couple of guys in a much smaller aluminum boat even had to get out and push too as they followed us out. We wasted over an hour on that, and by the time we got back to deep enough water to fish, it was around noon.
We were about to give up and call it a day but decided after all that effort and sitting around all day we needed to catch some 'real' fish before going home. Stopped at a spot over toward east river that was good for us last year in the hot August / September days and from noon to 3pm, caught reds almost non-stop in 2 waves. I think we caught a total of 7 slot reds and just a couple shorts along with more catfish etc.
Nothing at all worth photographing other than the reds, but we got into 2 schools, had doulbe hookups, and felt like catching more instead of stopping to take pictures, so no pictures today.
Compared to yesterday, the fishing wasn't nearly as consistent, but fortunately the 3 hours of pretty good redfish fishin' salvaged the day, and the weather was beautiful all day. Back to the ramp at 3:15 and I'm just about ready to pass out after staying up till 2am watching the Noles suck it up and then leaving before sunrise for fishing again.
