I have done some fishing in a kayak before. To tell you the truth I loved it. It's really peacful, fighing a big fish is something else, and you can get real skinny with it. I also like the fact that you can launch it from anywhere. If your fishing alone I say go for it. ya just have to think about one thing..... the almighty great white shark.

DTK, I was more concerned with air boaters :o and gators than sharks.

Will you be launching at Hickory Mound or somewhere like that.......somewhere less congested. I always try to be courteous to the canoers and kayakers in the river but some folks will just swamp 'em. I'd fear for my safety taking a kayak out very far in the Icky or Aucilla.

TF, I was thinking of this yak-fishing thing kinda along the lines of exercise and fishing. But launching from icky and paddling out would be the gator gauntlet :o . What kinda speed boat was that? That was a Chalk being chased by a gator. :o

Oh. Well what you should do is just go swim laps around Reed Bingham. :o

Them little fellas won't bite you. Much... :o I fear a Bulldog much more than a gator.

We yak fish at Dekle Beach on the Gulf and at Jax Beach on the east coast.

Great fun. First time I cast a line near Keaton, a trout went for it. Total surprise to me as I was just playing in the kayak and practicing my casting and did not expect any fish. My friend in a kayak about 50 yards away had the same experience (beginners luck). Great fun and also you will see small sharks and rays close up.

Red fish are great fun and may pull your kayak.

Enjoy.
