Ok, I am about to mount my minnkota 74lbs thrust hand controlled, and would appreciate any advise on mounting, wiring, battery configuration ETC....
As you can see in the pic I don't have much room due to the size of the front storage compartment. I am planning on mounting it starboard side as close as I can get to the opening of the storage box. In order to clear the side I am going to have to use one of those sliding mounts.

Mounting varies from one boat to another. If posssible through bolt to the deck with fender washers underneath. Wiring is generally universal from boat to boat. Use 6 guage tinned wire and put a 50 amp breaker on it. I have had really good service on several orders from
Genuinedealz and their price is hard to beat as well. For the breaker I used 50 amp short stop automatic resetting inline breakers. They are much smaller than the panel mount breakers and just attach to your wire at the battery terminal.

You may want to consider the Minn Kota removable mount.

The mounted piece has a much smaller footprint and bolt pattern than the trolling motor bracket. Works well for me.

Nathan: I can easly acess the underside of the deck so a backing Plate or Washers will be easy to install....Thanks for the wire tip
Tin, I was thinking of mounting that under this......

I need to be able to slide the motor to the edge of the boat. How do you think that will work?

This picture shows the center puck that comes with the composite removable mount. It's a small footprint, and can be mounted in a much titer area, or more toward the edge of the boat. With the composite mount, the puck is the only piece bolted to the boat.
It looks like the aluminum mount has the same footprint as the trolling motor bracket. Also, if it's black, Minn Kota does not recommend using it in salt water.

Tin, I want to use that, but my problem is the width of the base in relation to the width between the bow of the boat and the hatch door..... I want to kill this boat designer......he had no for thought regarding trolling motors....
This is why I will have to use some form of Slide.....Have you seen a slide made for salt water applications?
