Motor question

Post by Redbelly »

When I crank my Yammy with the ear muffs on, and put it in gear, there is a "rattle" sound in the foot. Sorta like a grinding. If I rev it up it quits. At idle it is not a steady rattle but fluctuates.

If I take the shaft when not cranked and grab it, I can feel about a 1/16" of a "play".

Should I get this seen about?

CHECK OUT ENGINE

Post by FUTCHCAIRO »

I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YAMA'S, IF IT WERE A OMC PRODUCT I WOULD GET IT CHECKED OUT. COULD BE A DOG GEAR ABOUT TO EXPLODE, OR THE CONNECTOR ON THE SHIFT SHAFT COULD BE LOOSE AND JUST NEED TIGHTEN.

Is it the same grind that you get when putting it into gear?
If it is, I'd check the linkage like PA says...

Not the same thing but when I got mine back from having a water pump kit put in, it would go into gear by itself with my throttle advance pulled up. Thankfully it was just a small adjustment on the linkage that fixed it.

My Yamy doesn't do this, hard to say whats wrong without seeing it , have you checked your fluid level, seals, and the torque on your prop nut.

I know my prop nut is not as tight as ity can go, but if I did the cotter pin hole would be covered up.
I was too busy today to call him, I think I will just run it down to him next week.
