Got an invitation from Ddb to do a little cork slinging this past Saturday. The sea was pretty choppy, and the wind and tide were running the opposite directions most of the day but we made the best out of the bad conditions and came home with enough fresh fish for a couple of meals for us. Calvin smoked both of us in both the largest and the most number of keepers. David took first prize for the number of short fish caught and I hands down won the trash fish division.

Those are some nice trout. I was wondering, how deep were you fishing and what bait worked best for you?

we spent most of our time in 3-5' of water but 4.5' seems to get the most bite. As far as bait, you name it and we probably have used it - surface and suspended plugs, grubs, Saltwater assasin and pinfish, all under a cajun thunder. Caught most of the keeper with pinfish, a fair number of throwbacks with gulp and assasin, and top water continues to be a major dissapoinment. I actually saw a red came up and try to eat the plug but somehow the hook came unbuttoned as soon as I felt a fish.

Well BB may have won the trash fish division, but I'm pretty sure I was at least a close second. We appear to hold the lady-killer title and now we are working in on the lizard fish kings. Thank goodness we had Calvin to zero in on the quality fish.

The water is a lot darker than it has been over the last few months, lots of grass has been torn up and lots of it floating. We expected a strong afternoon bite with a strong rising tide, but it never really happend. We did have a good bite just after high when the tide and the wind started to cooperate. It was a good chance to try a lot of different things. The water is cooling, so fish should be feeding pretty heavy soon.
