As Rodbow posted earlier, the wind was howling out of the northeast this morning, making running out of Mash's Sands dangerous. The decision was made to allow all teams to launch wherever they chose, and check in at Jerry's Bait and Tackle by 3:30.

Alan Casselman and Reggie Roddenberry had boat problems that prevented them from making the weigh in. David Griffith and his partner were late returning, as a result of offering assistance to Alan and Reggie.

Here's the rundown on the rest. There were 8 teams participating today.

That's right, folks. Casey and I are tied for the lead. Chuck is 4 points behind. Colby Melton and Austin trent are tied for Jr. Angler. And Katie Showman has a solid lead for Lady angler of the year.

So I just checked in to see how you guys did on my water....
Was the wind that bad?
And where did the teams fish?

Man was the wind howling out of the east!!!! We decided to still go offshore out of Carrabelle yesterday morning and the wind never quit. The fish bit well, but man did we take a beating......will post report later when I quit swaying

Bman, you would have had a good laugh at my antics as I tried to get the fly line out to those trout. I'm going to let my partner, Alan (Reel Therapy), give the bulk of our report. However, a few things come to mind that I want to let everyone know about.
#1. I really appreciate fishing with my partner, Alan, who was ever the gentleman angler...putting up with my fly fishing foul-ups. I could not have "drawn" a better partner, never mind the fact that Allen elected to fish with me knowing I was determined to fly fish this tournament.
#2. Thank you, TinCan, for the wise decision to get us out of fishing Mashes Sands - it would have certainly been a dangerous fishing condition out there. We will have better days for us to fish out of Mashes Sands next year, I think. TinCan, you have my vote for Tournament Director next year.
#3. Great gobs of thanks to David and his partner for stopping to check on us when Allen's outboard motor died at Buoy 44 in the St. Marks channel. I'm sorry your certain act of kindness caused you guys to be late to the checking in! Did you enjoy those big, fat trout we gave you?
#4. I really learned a great deal fishing this tournament. For instance, when your fly rod does not produce results, put it down and pick up the conventional gear. Yes, I did! Although I tried to play Capt. Reggie the guide, I managed to catch a couple of fat trout slinging a MirroLure and a weightless Gulp (Allen can tell you about the colors & flavor - he has pics). Also, I will start fishing tournaments next year (next month, too) as I have been convinced that this is a pure form of sportsmanship, as evidenced by all the participants - you guys rock. Now I know why I joined the NFGFC!
$5. Finally, Darn-Darn, Allen & I missed out on the food at the end of the weighg in. Oh well, next month - maybe we can get in without mishap so we can actually weigh in our own fish. I promised Allen that if his boat was still down for repairs next tournament, we would fish out of my battle wagon, for sure.
Next month's tournament is going to be an exciting affair as our two front runners battle down to the wire for all the glory. If I were a better journalist, maybe I would write a story about it. Maybe I will?
To all you peeking fly fishermen out there in the land of salt water fishing, that wind was more challenging than my last weekend's affair with TallyFly, when we actually fought the east winds out of Mashes Sands.
Last Saturday's trip and yesterday's happenstances reminded me about why I fish = Because a day on the water with good fishing friends makes for a wonderful adventure no matter the weather conditions, etc.
I will miss this months meeting because there are rainbow, brown, & brook trout calling my name out of Transylvania County in North Carolina near a small town called Brevard. As such, I have a hot date with some stream filled "vampire" trout. There will be an elongated report filed when I return, of course.

Good job to Ty and Casey....and all the teams that toughed out the wind. Thanks TC for putting on another good tournamnet. As always I enjoyed it and plan to be there next month.

It was a blowing day, Glad we did'nt have to put in a Mashes Sands. CC and I launched at Spring Creek. Hit one of my favorite spots and only picked up a small trout and a small red.

About 9am we ran to Redfish Point. We saw the BassBoys there, AKA (Team Two and 1/2 men). CC and I got where we wanted to fish, after fishing for about 20 minutes I caught a man. He was 26.5" and weighed 5.23 lbs. CC caught the other four, two 19.5"ers an 18"er and a 16.5"er. These fish gave us 13.05 lbs. for the day and Big Fish. The big one was caught with my big jerk bait.

CC and I had a good time and a lot of laughs, Hope to fish with him again.

I fished with the man, the myth, the legend, Ty One On yesterday and learned a ton about fishing. It was an awesome time, had the privelege of netting an absolute hawg of a trout, and even got to see the infamous "Smith Beach." Man what a day. Enjoyed talking with all of yall at the weigh-in and am already looking forward to the next tournament.

That is one large filet. What a Fish!

Turns out it was just a nut on the battery terminal that was not tight enough (thanks Butch-saved me some monty). Was snug to the hand, and I didn't know they needed to be any tighter than that. Mangaged two trout in the first spot before we couldn't refire and had to endure a slow trolling motor ride back. Then to the bar to wait on check in.

Went out Sunday just to make sure everything is works again, and it does. Managed about 12 trout and saw lots of reds east of the lighthouse.
