Econfina 10/8/07........Almost Skunked

Decided to try a new spot today, so I headed out of Inky for the first time. Launched about 0900 and headed West. Fished in close, sat in the grass line at times and worked points, worked down the shoreline, and went out to about 5-6 feet of water. Managed 1- small jack and 1-small trout. Spent a lot of time "being careful" running, which took some sploring/fishing time away, but managed not to hit one rock (this time).
Not really happy about my lack of fishing performance, but I'm getting used to it.
Wind was pretty brisk early, but laid down a little after about noon. On the trailer and heading home by 15:00. Water level seemed high the entire time, which probably goes along way to contributing to my not leaving my lower unit, or parts of it, in the Gulf.

It is so hard for me to give up a pattern that is working.

It was nice to see a different area, but I don't feel like I worked the area good enough (limited time, slow running, etc..). It might be quicker for me, time wise, to fish Inky vice St. Mark's, as I avoid the T'hassee traffic.

It was BD. I think I can be in the water in close to 2 hours with no stops.

New spots are usually difficult. Add the wind and it can be a long day. Next trip will be easier.

Thanks for the report. We had a slow go of it on Sunday. That east wind makes it tough to fish the shoreline and points.

Got that right. There were a couple times I opened up and threw the trottle forward....then got skeered when the images of the gulf swallowing up lower units recently came into vision. That and the fact that the wife wasn't thrilled with me heading down for a quicky to begin with. I can imagine what he!! I might have received when I called and reported my late return upon arrival of the "towboat" and the subsequent associated costs.
