Question about Jackplates

I see the gheenoes or "microskiffs" rigged with manual JPs. I see this as a way for them to run shallow. These are non-tunnel hulls.
Would this work on a small alum johnboat as well? Looks like a neat concept that could be applied to a wider and more stable platform,(for fat boys like me!). I have a 1544 allwelded that I think this idea would make it a good light shallow machine.

Any opinions or experience?

THAT IDEA IS GOOD, JUST GET ONE WITH A 10 INCH SET BACK AND IT WILL WORK FINE WITH A TILLER CONTROL, I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE WITH A STEERING WHEEL.

Thanks Pa, I was wondering about if a tiller was the only way. I think it would be a good rig for Aucilla/Icky fishing in close and up the creeks, as I have already had the boat there fishing.
I am putting the tunnel rig on the used boat market.

redbelly,
Did you try this on your john boat? I've been thinking about adding a plate to mine to make it run shallower for duck season.

No not yet, but after seeing the fla guys set up gheenoes that way, I thought it would work on my little john sitting over there in the yard.

Got some ideas to use it for. But...if I come across a go-devil at the right $ that may go on there too!

I feel the same way... go devil is the way to go, but I have a 5 hp briggs outboard motor that works fine. I was thinking that motor mount or a jack plate might make a difference when it comes to just clearing some pads and staying a little less tangled.

RB, I have a friend in T-ville that has a Mud Buddy motor that he may make you a good deal on. Keep in mind it's a new motor so he's not going to give it away.

RB look in the for sale section. I posted a while ago about a ( I think) 20hp go-devil. Still for sale
