Is there anything better than the negative low tides in the fall and winter?
Inspired by Chalk's flyrod report I headed out for a sorely missed fishing trip. Got to Lanark at 9:30 and the tide was near its bottom. The wind was pumping out of the ENE at 15. Not fun for the long rod. I hit a wind blown flat first and just couldn't deal with the conditions. Saw a few reds but the wave induced cavitation of the troller had them bugging out in a hurry. Enough of this. Found a somewhat protected flat and bounced from sandhole to sandhole picking off the reds as I went. Highlight of the morning was a 34 inch, 13lb brute that cruised from the grass and laid up in a pothole. A quick cast, a twitch and the little clouser was gone. Three times into my backing and she was in the boat. Love this stuff.
Saw quite a few sharks and very few sheepies so the water is still plenty warm. The best of fall fishing is yet to come. A few pics:
Man ! I'm gonna bring my 8wt. next week when I come down and try some of my shade tree built clousers...Sure don't anticipate any results like these ...Keep them pics coming !
