Afternoons at St Marks

Sat Afternoon:

Friend from MS brought over his 12 year old son for a red try. The boy has a pretty good cast  Met them on Sat. at 12:30. Ran to a good flat. I was using TW to find reds while I had them on spoons and TW too. We got into reds right away, landing 2 or 3 on TW.
Ryan landed his first red at 18 (+ an "Eerman"). He also caught a fine 20" trout on TW that his pops had missed the strike on and he swung in and snagged with a spook  We landed 2 20" trout and 10 reds, with all but 3 in the slot and one 26-7/8 fatty that Chalk and BD were hoping to find Sat. morning.

Sun. Afternoon:

Headed out with the long pole and worked a very shallow flat. During the low I had 3 sight casts with 3 chases, one a pair of upper slot reds that fought over the fly for 10' or so....bout killed me when they didn't hook up...very exciting though. Changed fly after that.

Sight fished a second flat. Spotted 2 over a sand bar and made a decent cast. Watched the red turn and chase and the 24" red hooked up. Had a good fight for several minutes but he finally got off the fly. Seeing the take was awesome though  Spotted a trout on the same bar and got a chase and caught a 16"er!

All in all a fun 4 hours of fishing with the long pole. Got many looks, several bites, and 2 hookups, and casts got where they needed to be....feel like I'm out of middle school now  .

Can't wait till next time.

Reel,
did you happen to notice the Water Temp on Saturday out on the flats. or does anyone that was out around the LH know what the water temp was. I was out there and only got a 19" trout and one Blue at 20" on live pin fish, but i want to check and see if my temp gauge was malfunctioning.

Thanks and great day with the young ones on the report.
