Fished from daylight until 1 p.m. yesterday and caught about 8 small bass including this one 3 pounder.



I hate to buy high priced lures, but I am becoming sold on the Aruku Shad. I have fished Rattltraps for years with pretty good results but nothing like this bait.

What part of the lake were you on?

I used to feel the same way, but you know, imagine the cost savings compared to live bait. I used to fish with live bait a lot and think nothing of spending $15-20 a trip on it, yet I'd be upset if I lost a $7 lure. Odds are you're going to lose one or fewer per trip, and in the long run it's just not that much money, and it's still a huge saving over live bait. Also try not to think of it as how much each one cost, but how many fish you get per lure before you lose them or wear them out. If one cost $3.50 and one is $7 but you catch twice as many fish on the $7 lure, then what's the fish-per-dollar difference? Just a thought...

Also, thanks for the lure tip - I may get in to a little more bass fishin when it's freezin and windy.

Q] In the cold Winter conditions here in the UK top waters dont work, can I take it that these lures are also less successful on the inland waters for bass when the North wind blows? I would think species the World over are less likely to move far or fast for their food in colder conditions!
or do top water lures work year round where you fish?

Well, 2.9 pounds on my Berkley scale. I have a witness!

The bass looks smaller because I wasn't doing the old Roland Martin hold 'em close to the camera to make 'em look bigger trick.

can you give a more detailed report of how they are biting on Talquin? Have you ran into any Stripers?

Haven't run into any stripers... a few stumps, but no stripers.

All of my fishing on Talquin recently has been from Rocky Comfort back toward the Iron Curtain. I get out before daylight trying to catch a topwater bite with no luck. I'm just not seeing a lot of baitfish concentrations.

This last trip was a little more successful with a few fish early on a white 1/2 ounce spinnerbait. I then went to the Little River area and started fishing the Aruku Shad in about 6 feet. That's when it got pretty busy. The 3 pounder was the best for this trip, though.

Neither of my depth finders has a temperature sensor so I need to replace the battery in my digital thermometer.

I won't be able to get back out until Sunday and I think I am going to try the topwater thing around the docks starting at Polk Creek. I haven't been getting to the docks until after the wind starts blowing a gale so I think I'll start off fishing that area the next time out.

How 'bout you? Anything to report?

I would try further down the lake Olebiker! A rattle trap around docks has been good to me on stripes and bass. I have beeen seeing alot of bait early over 15-18 feet of water. Limited out on crappie Sunday in the wind by 10! Water temps are around 72, except The Little River which was 67 during the game Sat!

How are you catching those crappie? I've never done much crappie fishing.

I have been trolling southern pro hot grubs!
