Here is a really good history of the Cocktail Party we all know and love. According to one of my Dawg Friends, the Gators were a second rate team until the nineties. This goes back to the original team UF founded in 1904. All the facts are laid out.

Lets see, 1976 ranked #10, 1980,1984 ranked #2, 1985 ranked #1,and then the 90's where we have been so dominant. Not calling you out but I was born in 72 hence the Gators have been anything but a second rate team since I was born. If you root for a team and are not a bandwagon (your term) fan, know your history. UF had an average ranking of ninth in the country during the eighties, not bad for a second rate(your term) team. Just wondering, because I have no idea, What was the Dawgs average ranking during that time???? Id love to know how high you have to be to be a first rate team.

Hmmmm, ranked 4 times in 20 years...yep, thats way up there. BTW, are those rankings from the end of the year or where there highest ranking was during the year.
Lets see, 1976 we beat UF 41-27...top team for sure. 1980, we won 26-21 and finally in 1984 with the team that Pell built while violating nearly every rule for recruiting, the Gators won the game, only to later be stripped by the NCAA. Yes sir, quite a history.
The only coach that brought Florida to the forefront was Spurrier. Can't stand the man, but hats off to his coaching ability.
Born in 72...man you could have been on of my high school mistakes
