Carrabelle 11-9

Post by EddieJoe »

Made the decision late last night to try my luck this morning off Dog Island. Even though the weather was chilly, I expected it to warm up quickly, and the cool front would make it better for trolling, I hoped.
Tide was low low, and with a North wind I decided to launch at Carrabelle, where there is a bit more water. Motored out about 7:30, right at low tide, and saw a few more boats getting ready to launch. Wind was NE about 5-10k, with a 1-2' sea. Not bad, although heading directly into the rising sun is difficult.

Went to my favorite 45' trolling area, and dropped a Red/white and a pearl/blue back stretch into the wake, adjusting the Shimano TLD 15's to a light drag. Got a hit right away, but undersized. Then a nice 27" gag took the red/white, and bent the heck out of one of the trebles. Had to change to a 25, and it just didn't go as deep. Kept trolling, and had nice hits, some misses, and two more gags joined the first one on ice. Also caught a huge bonita, two kings (released the bigger one, the snake swallowed the stretch, so I had to ice him, too). Ran over a super looking ledge, so decided to drift it with bait to see if I could finish out the bag. Boom, boom, and two more in the boat - time to head in.

As I headed in, had to take off the jacket and gloves, as it had warmed up real nice. Wind had dropped to nearly calm, too, and seas were one foot. Really pretty. Back at the dock by noon, and after loading I saw Chuck headed to get a new pump.

Luck,

EJ
