Wanted to get another nice fishing day in before the holidays, so I headed down to Lanark to drop the boat in just as the sun came up. Expected to troll them up big time like earlier in the week. Well, calm as can be, beautiful day with virtually no wind and NO current.
Trolled and trolled the same areas that were very productive last week, and caught bull lizardfish, sand perch, about a dozen sea bass, a bonita, and 5 undersized grouper in 3 hours of dragging plugs. Anchored up, and it was amazingly quiet - either I just don't have a clue or the lack of current might have contributed. Anyway, I buzzed around at high speed trying different spots because it was so flat, and eventually managed to put three keepers in the box.

I lost a gigantic gag bottom fishing right at the boat when my hook actually bent straight under the pressure. A Daichi just bent straight. On the fish, not on a rock. A heart breaker, but hey, next time. Shouda, coulda, woulda.

On the way in saw a big pod of baby dolphins at play. Beautiful.

Luck,

EJ

Thanks for the report. I think you nailed it about the lack of current. I have never had much luck without some current movement. Hopefully we can have some of those light winds the week of Thanksgiving

What a fish bending the hook like that. Gets my blood pumping just thinking about it.

EJ,

Went Tuesday and it was much slower than last week. Picked up a king trolling, lost a couple other fish. Bottom fishing was also pretty slow. We managed a few, but something about those flat calm days.
