Yak Weekend 12-1-2007

Post by jsuber »

Long weekend of fishing. Went out of Oyster Bay Friday afternoon ot get a few minutes of fishing in. Weather looked great but the fish were not very cooperative unless you were fishing for Sheephead.

Talltails landed about 8 real nice ones. He had been out there a few hours before I got there. I ended up catching a rat red on that new Rapala Sub-walker. As we were leaving Officer Olson with the FWC greeted up for an equipment check. He checked the fish, license, whistle, and PFD. So they do get out.

I went to the Fenholloway on Saturday morning. I paddled out of that last boat ramp in the middle of an alligator training camp. I noticed that the alleged toxins in the Fenholloway have not stunted the growth of the Alligator population. I guess the strong ones have survived, and you do not want to practice your dog paddling techniques in there.

Went out the mouth and was gonna look for those Oyster Bars south East of the mouth as shown on the Top Spot map. They do not exist. There was more of me there than there was saltwater and I did not see those Oyster Bars. I did paddle West toward Rock Island and picked up lots of short Reds and Trout.

Went to the Ochlocknee Bay area on Sunday with Talltails and we repeated the process of catching lots of short Redfish Trout and Flounder. Not one keeper in the bunch. I could filled up a Jon-boat with fish, but they would have all been too small to keep. It was fun though. When you get a chance ask Talltails about “Alligator Tippingâ€

I ran inot Mook and company at the store. I wonder how they did?

Chalk, if those bars are there, they must be buried under Jimmy Hoffa. They didn't show themselves with the water all gone when I looked.
