Cedar Key Offshore. 12/4 07. Kid Catchin’

Post by Big Bend Brian »

Sunday: We invited some of Casey & Kaitlyn’s schoolmates to come over to Cedar Key to visit us and have some fun. Originally we were just gonna kayak but with an outstanding offshore forecast (24 hrs before the front) we decided to take the kids offshore for some catchin’. Here’s a pictorial review of our day. It was a picture perfect day offshore (weather wise & fishing too).

Since this wasn’t a serious fishing trip we left the dock late at 1100 hours and headed to the bait store.

Catchin’ bait. This alone was a pretty fun activity

Five year old Conner is pretty excited about his puffer (they tore us up offshore……)

Catchin’ a snack on the way out to the catchin’ grounds

Miss Marian caught a couple

Conner is one grunt catchin’ machine!!

Tristin was pretty good too

Miss Jordan was the grouper girl (first red)

Course…. Kaitlyn caught one

On the way back we checked our stone crab traps with the kids taking turns gaffing the crab pots (had to release a lot of legal stoners as we already had maxed out our limit)

Water temperature in 10 and 26 feet was 66.9° and 68.7 ° F, respectively. There were plenty of bait pods from 12 to 25 feet offshore with a few groups of rays swimming by. Oddly the rays we saw were swimming north. We saw a fair amount of bird activity working the bait pods too.

One final note: Five kids offshore each catchin’ fish makes for one pretty busy afternoon…
Gotta love kids & fishing!!

HooYah!!

That sounds like a great day for the kids.

Looks like a few might just be "hooked" for life.
