Bent skeg?

Post by Redfish Jim »

Hit something hard trying to get out of a creek near Econfina yesterday. The only damage looks like a bent skeg. I was wondering if any of you had ever had this happen and how to fix it. Would the guy in Woodville (Wavel Porter?) be a good guy to take it to? Thanks for any advice. I'll post a fishing report in the appropriate section.

You might want to think about having Wavel put on one of his rock guards but yes take it to him and he can straighten it out but it will be weaker and break off a little easier on the next rock.

I took it to Porter's today. I waited because I was hoping to get in another weekend of fishing before some surgery. No other damage so it would have been OK for a trip. Between the weather and the job didn't get a chance.

I'm going to spring for a rock guard. Hopefully me and the boat will be good as new in a couple of weeks.

You wont be sorry,it's a good investment. I need a new too, wore all the way through the 1/2 in SS rod on my last one,if you look on the door in his shop you can see one of mine bent at a 90% angle,I asked if it was still under warranty.

Just picked up the boat from Porter's.

I can vouch for the guy's timliness, friendliness, fair prices and workmanship.

I'll let y'all know how that rock guard works next time I hit a rock.
