Econfina - winter solstice (12/21)

Late report - Mr. Greenjeans and I were on the water by 11 on Friday. Looked for reds in the usual places and almost immediately found them. We caught a 24" red and lost 2 more in the 25" range. After that, it was nothing but small slot reds and pups, but there were lots of them. This pattern held for a couple hours, and then the bite turned off. I think greenjeans managed to sneak a trout in.

The wind blew all morning and slacked off towards mid afternoon. Wished I had a powerpole today. Everytime we found the fish, it was a struggle keeping the boat in place with the trolling motor, and we ended up chasing more fish off than we caught, but did I mention that there were lots of fish and they were relatively forgiving.

I wish I could find those size reds. I've seen nothing but pups lately.

The longer we fished, the smaller the fish got. My first hook up of the day was easily the biggest I had, and he spit my slack hook set at the boat. He looked me in the eye, shook his head as if saying "no", spit the spoon out and then swam away leisurely.

This was the best of our day.
