Fluff Variant

Post by Chalk »

I spied this DL Goddard fly a few weeks back and had to make one.

Materials Used

Hook: Mustad 34007 size 1 or 2.
Thread: White flat waxed nylon
Tail: Cream craft fur stripped with brown marker
Wing: Palmered cream rabbit zonker
Head: 1/8 eyes
Weed Guard: 30-pound mono with burnt ends
Flash: Root Beer Midge Flash

Tying:
Tie in craft fur tail somewhere between the hook barb and point.
Tie in Rabbit zonker on top of tail and hook shank
Wrap thread forward and tie in dumbbell eyes
Wrap thread back behind the eye and wrap in the midge flash and mono eyes/weed guard.
Palmer zonker forward, stroking hair back as you palmer
You want the weed guard and midge flash to stand up, be mindful of that when you palmer forward.
An option is to palmer zonker forward and then place the weedguard ahead of the dumbbell eyes and wrap the flash onto the
finished zonker. (As in the picture)
Whip finish and apply head cement.
Take a brown marker and bar the tail

To make the mono guard/eyes - take a piece of mono (2 or 3 inches) and fold in half. Place on hook and eye mono length, you want it to be a little longer than normal (normal is just above the hook point)...remove and take a lighter and carefully burn each tip to make an eye. Do not breath the fumes, I'm sure they are toxic. Let cool and color the eyes with a marker, that's it.

Enjoy - It's easier to tie than type up the instructions
