TROLLING FOR GROUPER Econfina Dec 31,2007

Post by Carlabear »

NEW YEARS EVE. :) :)

Left Econfina at sunrise and ran 185' south to 22 feet t0 25 feet. Too much grass to troll so went west till 27 feet and started trolling around some crab pots. Saw some fish on bottom but could not get a hit. We decided to wait them out and Whammm..................................about 12 noon went over spot that looked like A Moby dick sitting on top of smaller fish. Marked it on GPS and proceeded over it. One 30 in grouper in the boat! We trolled over this same area for about one hour and give or take 100 feet and caught 10 gags that were keepers, 2 throwbacks . Eight of the ten were over 30 inches. They quit as suddenly as they started. Had our first triple knock down and 2 double knock downs! The action was fast and furious for that hour. We trolled 2 rapala lures red and white and fire tiger and bubble gum pink stretch 30 and new fire color yellow and red. It really did not matter what color we used. it was easy to troll 4 lines using the rapalas out deep and the stretch 30s in closer. :P :P :P :P :smt006 This was our best trip since the red tide hit 2 years ago.

Hope this is a sign of good things to come!!!!!! :D
