I took the boat out on the Wacissa River yesterday afternoon for joy ride and I have always wondered whether or not you can cast mullet those huge mullet on the river. Ive always figured you couldnt since it was freshwater but thought Id ask and see if any of yall knew for sure.
Also, would the they tasted different because they live in freshwater?

You can net those Wacissa fish.
They probably come and go thru the sink hole between Wacissa and Aucilla.

Very difficult to cast net big mullet in deep water. You want to do that in shallow water or when you see them cruising up top.

The Wacissa flows into the Aucilla. It goes through a swamp, but you can run the old slave canal and actually run between the two.

Like the St. Marks River it also goes underground and comes back up.(at Natural Bridge). The mullet could be coming thru the canal or underground. The Wacissa is very shallow in most places. Net 'em and eat 'em boy.

I haven't eaten the river mullet, but I had a neighbor who told me they don't taste nearly as good as salt water mullet. I'd sure give it a try though. Let us know how they come out.

I can tell you that they are going to be strong, the bigger they are the stronger the taste,if you are going to keep some way up in the fresh water then keep the 1/2 lb size fish to eat.
