Da Mud Bug

Another rainy day has me twisting a few up :o

I got the idea from a crawfish fly...they used leech dubbing...I had some dubbing and tried to emulate it, but couldn't, so I grabbed my trusty pile of craft fur and went to mixing. Used black, tan and brown craft fur...cut a hank of each and then mixed them together and dubbed them.

Materials Used
Hook: Mustad 34007 size 2 or 4.
Thread: Olive Ultra Thread 140
Tail: Copper Crystal Flash and two brown sili legs
Body: Dub loop of tan, brown and black select craft fur
Head: 1/8 eyes
Weed Guard: 20-pound hard mason mono

Tying:
Tie in dumb bell eyes and wrap to just past the barb
Tie flash twice the hook length
Tie in two rubber legs the same length or shorter...I use one rubber leg and half it
Make a dubbing loop about 4-5 inches long
Cut three small hanks of craft fur in tan, black and brown. I hold all three at once and clean it of short fibers. I then blend them together, mixing them up like cards.
Spread evenly in the dubbing loop and twist it tight...comb it out and palmer it around the hook shank to the dumb bell eyes.
Wrap thread forward, add weed guard, whip finish and head cement.

 I like what you have created here, Chalk. I have been searching for an easily tied Shrimp Fly using epoxy and this seems to fit into my search with a couple of modifications - loose the "claws" and lead eyes while adding some segmentation and hard shell along the back. I'll play with it and see. Thanks!

A fine bit of fish food. The buggy the better in my opinion.
