Aucilla 2/2/08

Had the privilege of taking my Dad fishing yesterday. Got out to the Aucilla around 10:10 a.m. and ran into Welby at the ramp. Eased out the mouth of the river and made our way over to Showman Creek. Fished up in the creek and I missed two decent reds off a bar back up in the creek. Our trolling motor battery basically was dead by the time we got out of the first creek...I guess that's what happens to four year old batteries.
Moved out of SC and made our way down a little further to a creek I'd been hearing good things about. By this time, we had no trolling motor to speak of and had to rely on the wind the blow us up into it. The creek had a series of bars surrounded by dark mud and we were able to Power Pole down as we passed each bar and cast in and around it. In the second creek, Pops and I caught 6 reds to 19" and saw a bunch more. Only a few looked over 22". We called it a day after basically two hours of fishing (which sucked on such a pretty day), but it was tough fishing without a TM. Ran into JT51 back at the ramp and had a good talk with him.
Pops and I both used light jigs with colored grubs that were slowly bounced back to the boat. The water temp on the flats was around 55 and in the creeks the highest we saw it was 57. Would've like to fish longer, but some days are like that.
A nice double

This guy needs to do a lot of growing to do before Feb. 9

It was a good day with a good friend
