What is It?

Put in at Lower Bridge and went down this afternoon. Lots of trucks and trailers at the ramp. Had to go down the highway to park. Lots of boats on the river. Seemed to be mostly just riding around. Only saw one other boat fishing between Lower Bridge and Little Boggy. Lost a small bass on a Yo-Zuri lipped minnow sinking plug. Had it so long I don't remember what the name of it is. Not sure if they import this one. Not the same one that's in the picture. Got checked by Officer Herndon just as we got down to the St. Marks Powder Park. Nice fella', good to see him again. So many boats on the river I was glad to see him around.

Saw a raccoon prowling the bank a little after 2 in the afternoon. Guess it was his version of me prowling around the kitchen in the middle of the night.

South wind was blowing up the long, straight stretch of river.
Me: "Okay, no problem. We'll just paddle down, then fish while we drift with the wind on the way back up."
Me2: "We should drift up and fish, then drift down with the current and the falling tide later on. This wind will die down later in the afternoon."
Me: "If you wanted to do that you should have said something before we left the bridge"

Saw an eagle soaring over the river in big, lazy circles, but generally headed southish.

Staked out in the mouth of Little Boggy. Threw the Yo-Zuri. Missed one. Threw a spinnerbait. Nothing. Threw a shallow running crankbait. Nothing. Threw the Yo-Zuri in the photo. Missed one. Eased on up in the creek a little.

GOT ONE! WHOO-Hoo! It's about time!
Wait a minute. What the heck is that?

Okay, I know what it looks like, but they're not supposed to hit lures. Flys and poppingbugs once in a while maybe, but not lures fished for bass.

This one had the front set of trebles in his mouth. As if he attacked that plug like a bass or trout would. A basset?

I tried to get a pic while he was still hooked, but trying to juggle a fish and a cell phone, while standing in a canoe, with a 7 yr. old jumping around in the bow, without dropping anything in the Wakulla, before the fish flopped off the hooks, just didn't work out.

Moved back out into the river.
Me: "Were not drifting. With the opposing wind and current we're sitting still."
Me2: "Told ya'."
Me: "Shut up and paddle."

Passed by some fellas fishing the deep channel just below the park.
"Hey, how ya'll doin'?"
"Pretty good. You?"
"Alright. Catchin' any?" Knew they had something. Saw them landing a fish as we were coming up.
"Couple o' reds and a few sheephead."
"On shrimp?"
"Yep."

Wanted to fish the deep run between the park and the bridge, but there was so much chopped up grass floating it didn't seem worth it to cast.

Finally tally: 1 Basset :-D

I caught one of those off dog island one time. I think they are trying to push them away when that happens.

It does look like a Long A. That's something the Japanese do extensively, is take a product, improve it, and market it. You should see what they did with their military version of our HMMWV. :o :D
Except, to the best of my knowledge, that's not available commercially.

This is another one that I don't know if it's imported. The thing I found interesting when I first got this one, and some others similar to it, is that there's a slot in the belly for a mini chemlight. Included in the boxes the lures came in was a small package that contained extra of these little chemlights. I haven't seen any lures over here with that feature, but I haven't looked for that either. I'm sure there must be some it's just not as wide spread.

Some of these were designed to float and some sink. I couldn't tell by reading the box and I wasn't saving the boxes anyway, so I threw the lures in a tub of water and the ones that floated got an "F" on the tail in indelible marker.

It wouldn't surprise me if these little chemlights are so old they don't work anymore.

The Yo-Zuri Arc Minnow. That's the name of this plug that I couldn't remember.

Oh well, the important thing to remember is how to catch fish with it. Right? :D
