Awesome day. Started out slow. Two hours of blind casting some water I’d never made the effort to paddle before. When I first got to where I planned to fish I changed direction because I would have cut off the drift of another boat. Plenty of water didn’t mean plenty of fish so I spent the next hour looking and wishing. Blah blah.
I followed the drift of the other boat and finally found a nice looking little redfish. The nice fellas in the other boat told me that they’d done real well when the redfish were everywhere, catching them even when the Mullet boat stirred the place up like a mixing bowl. People got to make a living but we were the ONLY boats in sight and those guys couldn’t have tried harder to stir up the water we were fishing.
The fish weren’t around now so on I went. That worked and I found 4 nice slot reds.
I also caught a decent Flounder that I lost at the side of the kayak so no pic (on that one anyway).
I moved on to target Trout.
In a word, Wow. :D
Caught at least 25. Most were smaller than my recent trips, 17-18”. 3-4 were over 20”.
My 6 weight got a great initiation. Caught about 10 of the trout on it.
A crazy Pelican story. Right after I talked to the 2 guys in the other boat I saw a Pelican working some fish near shore so I figured that meant bait. On the next dive the bird caught something, something big. Best I could tell it was a Redfish because the outline of the fish shaking the birds completely stuffed pouch had the shoulders of a red. I’d guess about 18”. The bird couldn’t eat the fish or get it out of its pouch. It was too big. It couldn’t fly either. I couldn’t get close enough to help but I did take a couple movies. Crazy.

I just watched my Pelican video. :o Unreal. The fish is way too big for the bird to deal with.
I'll learn how to post it later today.

That's the way to put together the combo, Lit. Thanks for the reports. Awesome video of pelican trying to take off with what appears to be a pretty hefty load.
