JBT Saturday Redfish or Lack of..

Got to Jerrys on saturday morning around 530 and got ready for a good day of fishing. Loaded up the cooler with ice got some shrimp and spoons and headed down to the fort. Got to the fort around 630 and launch the boat. Capt. Jon hops in and turns the ignition and nothing. Tried everything to get the motor running and even tried to make a rip cord with no avail. So pretty pissed off we pull the boat out of the water and head up to shell island to see if anyone could take a look at it for us. An older guy comes out and asks a few questions and looks over the engine. He asks us if we have a hammer or a wrench and jon grabs a breaker bar out of his truck. The guy gives the back of the motor a good slam
and asks we to turn the key. It turns over. I was stunned but happy and we paid the three dollars to launch out of shell island. I figured it was the least we could do for a running motor. By this time it was 900 and we were well behind. We went to one of our spots on the Wakulla with no luck and head down river towards a nice cloud of smoke. Nasty forest fire burning on the west side of the river that blocked out the sun for a good portion of the day. Fished some bars and saw two tailing reds by a creek mouth but they scattered quickly. Had mullet jumping all around the boat and saw schools of baitfish get pinned up against numerous bars. Frustrated that we could not catch fish we called it a day around 2. I unfortunately could not get to the spot I really wanted because of that damn fire but I guess it happens. I was just glad we got the motor up and running and got to wet a line at least.
Might try to get down to wakulla beach sometime later this week for some reds but i might save myself for next week. My dad is coming in from virginia and were driving on over to south central Louisiana to go find some big reds. Hopefully the bayous are not nearly as frustrating as the st. marks river...
Congrats to all the winners you guys had some real nice fish.
