Shell Point 3/15 ; Econfina 3/16

Saturday: Put in at Shell Point around 7:15 – ran East of the St. Marks and started fishing around some rocky – oystery bottom. Ty threw his jerkbait and I threw a topwater. Fished for an hour or so and caught one trout at 16.5” on the topwater. Headed further East to a series of oyster bars and spotty bottom – Ty caught a 20” trout on his jerkbait and I caught a couple small trout on a twitchbait and a grub. By this time the wind kicked up like crazy and we made a long, wet run back to Shell Point through thick fog. Off the water by 12:30.
Trip Odometer: 39 miles
Total for the day:
6 trout
1 Bluefish
Sunday: Put in at Econfina and headed East. The day before had helped us rule out any areas West of there. Arrived at Spot 1 and Ty and I both threw topwater. We picked up a border-line keeper trout right at 15” that went back in the water. I caught a couple blues as well on the topwater.
Made a move further East around R.I. and fished a series of rock piles. Everything looked good – mullet were jumping, water was moving and there was structure. Ty immediately caught a good redfish on the jerkbait. I had a good one break me off on some rocks. Things were looking up. And then nothing for a good hour and a half. Moved out to a little deeper water and caught one short trout.
By this time we were scratching our heads and so we decided to head back West of the Econfina. We fished this area for the last hour and a half and Ty caught our one keeper on his jerkbait and I caught a couple short trout on a grub.
It was one of those days…we couldn’t buy a bite. We fished in areas that we had a lot of confidence in, but the fish either weren’t there or didn’t like what we were offering. Some days are like that.
Trip Odometer: 51 miles
Total for the day:
6 trout – 1 keeper at 18”
3 redfish to 25”
2 Bluefish
