Are you guys watching this one...
WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court gets to write on a blank slate when it takes up the meaning of the Second Amendment "right to keep and bear arms" and the District of Columbia's ban on handguns. The nine justices have said almost nothing about gun rights, and their predecessors have likewise given no definitive answer to whether the Constitution protects an individual's right to own guns or whether that right is somehow tied to service in a state militia.

I hope that you can carry a gun in DC so you can at least defend yourself from the criminals.

Interesting...

My guess is the SC will issue a narrow ruling that won't provide an answer as to whether the 2cd amendment applies to individuals.

That being said, I hope I'm wrong. Probably isn't apparant to a lot of people yet, but Bush's stacking of the Supreme Court will likely have greater impact than anything else he has done in office (including Iraq). I would prefer to have the current justices decide this issue than about any other bench in the past. My .02.

I also expect a very narrow ruling from the Court on this issue. Chief Roberts has been advocating for narrow decisions which are much easier to command a consensus opinion. In addition, the District has an exceptional group of lawyers fronting their defense.

I predict the Court comes back with an individual right to bear arms subject to reasonable restrictions.

There was a good gun control case in Tucker Georgia yesterday. An 81 year old man applied good gun control to kill an intruder in his home. NOW that's gun control!
