Had a great day at Keaton 3/29, the fishing wasn't as fast and furious as it could have been, but the weather was terrific and I got to take a couple of friends that I don't get out on the water with too much. I guess everyone else was enjoying the weather as well, as the place was packed. Fished several areas North of Keaton, tried to get skinny but fournd a few rocks I would have rather avoided, just appears to be 'cosmetic' damage. Would have liked to have stayed in there to pick up a few reds as some others did, but with the small tides we had yesterday morning I guess that aint where I need to be. Picked up 10 trout, with a couple of fat ones at 20. Also managed to bring in one spanish and got several cut offs (gonna have to go with a stronger leader I guess). Water is pretty clear and there weren't many clouds to be found, so I guess the trout are still a bit skiddish. Saw several rays, but no trailing cobia yet. Red and white seamed to be the color of the day for us.

Good day on the water with friends, DDB. Hope you're right about the damage only being cosmetic.

Cutoffs were probbaly spanish if you caught one. Due to the shape of their mouth and the predominance of teeth, they will break through almost anything not made of metal, and with a soft bait and no metal on there, I find they cut the line about 4:1 compared to actually hitting the hook. I keep a few steel leaders on me for this time of year. They will upset the action of your soft baits and jigs a little, but they work better that way than when they're not attached to your line.

Thanks for the report, and glad you got out there!
