Another nice afternoon on the water with the family. We caught a few shorts but not any keepers. We caught more sun than anything! I am ready for the bite to turn on!! Is it just us or will any of you admit to having some slow fishing days lately. I start thinking...is it me or is it just early yet? You guys give me some pointers or at least some encouragement....I am ready to fill the cooler!!!

Any day on the water beats staying at home.

The bite was way off today. We only got 1 keeper, and he was just 15 1/4".

QB. You guys need to come fish the tournament Saturday and get lots of pointers that are hard to come by otherwise.
But, to answer your question. Yes, the bite has been sporadic recently. You have to be fortunate enough to get on fish. They are not spread out just yet. If you find some they seem to be holding on those locations for several days.
Well, there is a pointer you did get otherwise.
The tides have not been the best recently and the wind has been a factor. The wind has kept the water temps a little on the low side for a good bite.
Look for bar and rocks that hold the temp up a little.
The blues and macks are a good sign. It means the bait is migrating in. Day to day should be getting better and better.
The weekend tides and warm weather should see a marked improvement by this weekend.

No, it's not you, there's a lot of small trout out there now. But JT'S right, the bigger trout are holding over rocks and bars getting warmer. Try those on high tide.

QB- The bars and rocks warm up in the sun at low tide.
When the tide comes in the water around them warms up some- that brings the fish.
Any dark bottom will do the same.

Also - look for the birds to find the bait... find the bait find the fish.

Sounds like it was still a fun day though! I'm sure the girls had a great time.

QB it's all good advice about the rocks and temperatures, but we got 74 degrees on the fishfinder a couple miles from shore and points in between. No reason for them to hang out warmer than that. Sunday was a slow bite, and although we did thro back several barely-a-keepers, we only brought home one fat trout and a meedjum size flounder. Flounder was caught in territory not friendly to a family size boat too. For us Sunday it was a matter of 10 minutes, move, 10 minutes, move, repeat ad nauseum. Our one fat trout was caught randomly in the middle of the flats during a time we caught about 20 shorts. I still considered it a good day because we got out there, but bite-wise, it was way off what you expect in that kind of weather. And btw, hate to agree with JT again, but he's right - you should bring the whole family out for the tournament!

Thanks for all the encouragement! It's nice to know we were not completely alone in our slow bite Sunday. We would love to come to the tournament this weekend but we will be on the Big Boat. We are going on our Honeymoon Cruise! (I think I will need to add some line to fish off the back of that boat) Hopefully we will be at the next tournament. We will be at the NFGFC meeting at Beef's on Thursday. Hope to see you all there!
