For the April NFGFC tournament Butch and I had our plan under wraps. We would fish the Econfina/Hickory Mound/Rock Island area.
I woke up and found white caps in my toilet. I knew then it was going to be a chitty day.
We rolled in to JBT about 6 a.m. Everyone who had not already left got Captains' bags provided by SEATOW. The bags included Seatow promo items. Included in the bags was an assortment of lures from Captain Mikes, Bite a Bait, Mirrolure.
We left headed to Econfina. There was no waiting at the ramp. No one there.
The 20 knot wind was blowing straight up the river. Low tide was 30 minutes away, but water was coming over the seawall at the ramp.
The water was almost black.
We slowly went down to a favorite creek to get a quick limit of trout and to get out of the wind.
This creek is always good for a nice redfish too.
Three hours of constant casting Mirrolure topwater, RedRipper spoons, Bite a Bait, GULP and anything else we could think to tie on produced not one single bite.
We moved out on the flats to drift some offshore bars and rocks. That move was the ticket. We got 4 short trout and a 15 inch keeper. The skunk is out of the boat.
Unfortunately we got no more bites whatsoever.Reminds me of trout fishing with BirdDog.
The wind never slowed down and never changed directions.
Back at the weigh in we had a big crowd of fishless folks. But lots of stories to tell.
Everyones spirits picked up when the prize raffle started. We had lots of merchandise to give out from FALCON RODS,TALLAHASSEE MARINE CENTER,CAPTAIN MIKES,POLAR BEAR COOLERS,ATTWOOD MARINE,MIRROLURE,NEMIRE LURES,BITE A BAIT and SALTWATER ASSASSIN. The JBT gift certificates were greatly appreciated.
I'm getting ready for next months tourney at St. Joe Bay.
See ya'll there.
