Well CT and I got to Jerrys at 6:30 on the dot after driving 6 mph for about thirty minutes and having to crank BB up to push the Duramax through all the water we were in. Met Chalk and saw a few of the guys at JBT before heading to get gas for the boat.(100.00) Filled her up , we grabbed a biscuit and after conversing with CC,SNR, and Bow'd, we couldnt decide where to go. Pulled up to the stop sign and asked Heath right or left, he said , " Jay , go with your instinct, your instinct will put us on the fish." Yea, that shiot worked out. My instinct said go to the bar west of Carrabelle where I waxed em last year about this time. Thats when I wish my reality instinct would have kicked in. Drop a 4 inch gulp in a quart bottle of Yoo-Hoo and shake vigorously. Precisely what the water we were trying to fish looked like. First cast, CT picks up the biggest sail cat I ve ever seen. A few casts later , a hardhead, then a spanish. Then mothing. Fished for an hour, the hole time thinking what a DA I am for coming this far knowing the water would look like Bow'd Ups porcelain throne after a good night of cold beer and hotwings. Went to another bar closer to the island and CT picked a trout. Water clarity was better but the skies were decreasing. We decided to head to Ecky to at least see if the water looked better. Ran out to a spot I thought CT had said there were to be trout. When we got there , what was normally 3 ft of water was seven. Then Ct told me it was the other place that he meant. Hauled azz in . HInt, when you have a 65" trolling motor shaft and the waves are pulling it out of the water, might be time to go to the hill. Looked down at the watch and decided not to go to the weigh in. Highlight of the day was a 23-35" trout I dropped off beside the boat. This brings up another point Ive been thinking about.
When I got home that night, I had several voice mails from NFGFC club members concerned that Team BB had not shown back up. Now your talking about a group of grown men at the weigh in, with all the goings on of the tourney, all the socializing , all the fun and excitement, and these guys still had the presence of mind to care enough about a couple of DAs that decided to stay and fish the storm. That in itself speaks volumes about the character of this fine organization we associate ourselves with. All BS'n aside. I appreciate the concern and apologize for the worry. Being a single fellow, no wife no kids, I dont often check in with anybody anytime, but Saturday was definitely a day I should have. It was inconsiderate and I apologize again to all who took the time to look after us. Nothing was wrong but had we of been sitting out on the flats in that storm, with a busted foot or worse, its good to know you got folks who havent forgotten about you. This brings up another idea.
I propose the "Bad Behavior" rule. I propose any member who signs and pays for registration at a NFGFC tournament shall report to weigh in by said time. If member chooses not to report to weigh in by official weigh in time(3:30), said member shall contact a member of the tounament directors by that time. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of points for that tourney. Repeated violations will result in loss of yearly points.
I know you guys may think I ve lost my marbles here but this is a solution to burdening other members with being concerned so they can too enjoy the tourneys. What do ya'll think?? Everyone carries a cell phone with them on the boat or at least they should. I know its a small scale tourney but this is a great way to ensure everyone is off the water, especially days like Saturday. Oh and congrats to all the winners. Congrats to Bow'd on the blue fish money. Now maybe your azz will pay me back for that Polaris battery, ya cheap bastid!!!
Totals for the day, 1 sail cat, 1hard head, 1 mack, 1 trout. 2 sausage biscuits(breakfast me and ct) stopped for lunch and fuel in Eastpoint, 12 chicken strips (lunch me and ct) a fat dinner at the hilltop store, and 315.00 in gas and fuel..... Many more days like this and Ill take up golf.
