Panacea Troutin 4-11-08

Got out yesterday afternoon with my neighbor Michael.
We got to Panacea about 1:30 and found that the Rock Landing ramp is open!
They have been tearing out the old dock- here is a photo from last year.

You can see that the piles were almost gone-It started collapsing this year
Well The old dock is completely gone- all the debris is piled up in the parking lot.
We ran out into a stiff wind from the south- it was much rougher than I expected from the marine forecast.
The photos do not give a good impression of the wind and chop... we were flying through our drifts.
While I tried top water in the choppy water Michael started catching trout on the Cajun Thunder / jig combo.

I stayed with it long enough to get jealous and then I put on the same thing.
Our drifts were quick but we consistently picked up trout.

We caught a ton of fish- most were keepers with the rest right at 14"
With a limit in the box we ran to try some other spots- a few creeks for reds and a few more bars.
The winds were just too high to ease around in the creeks and we blew over a bunch of reds before we could get one on.
No doubt that the water is warming up because we did manage two firsts for this year:
I caught my first Lady Fish and Michael caught his first Hard Head...
I promised to post a photo of his fish- he didn't get one of mine

We headed back in as the sun was going down

Ran into Hookwrecks for a great dinner of Oysters and Grouper sandwiches.

Got home late last night tiredly cleaned the boat and then fell asleep on the couch.
I almost can't think of a better way to spend the afternoon!
