Fished in the gale winds 4/13, Carabelle

Got a new rod and just had to try it out in the worst conditions I could find. First time down to Carabelle and just wanted to take a look around. Put in at Timber landing and headed across the sound. Found some good drop-offs at Dog Island and landed 2 keeper trout to 18" on the CT with Pearl White Gulp. Had several grab the bait but in trying to handle the boat in the stiff wind I failed to set the hook. By this time the wind had to be gusting to 90 with 6 foot rollers and I knew it would be a long ride back. Just like in Deadliest Catch. Headed straight over to the shore and the chop settled down a little. Got back in the river and was met by the man. Very friendly, took a look at my catch, license and usable personal flotation device. On to the ramp and back to the house. The Shimano Teramar 7'6" worked great in the wind with the 10 lb PP casting a Capt. Mike's spoon. Now I can't wait to try it on a slightly calmer day.
