After fishing Saturday and Sunday with my bride and Carrabellefish I allocated a little time to go with my other fishing partner Larry. We left Valddity at 04:30 to fish Lanark/Carrabelle, Carrabellefish called as we were driving through Sopchoppy to let me know he was about to put in and head out. We arrive in Lanark shortly thereafter only to find the right rear tire on the trailer shredded. A quick spare change in front of Mikes before launching delayed us only shortly and we launched to an empty ramp (so nice to fish in the middle of the week)

Headed out toward the pass and realized we better run up river to get just a little more fuel. We hit the “spot” before heading offshore looking for a couple reds to put in the bottom of the box, never did get a single red, but the 13 whiting we caught pulled nice and would do just fine. Well after that detour we finally got out to some numbers I had wanted to check for some time, and just have not gotten to them. We decided to troll a couple stretch 30’s and a skirt and cigar in case the kings were still on the prowl like Saturday! We didn’t have the rigs in the water a minute when the king rig when off. After a good little tug o war I landed a FAT 24 inch Spaniard! We had a knock down on the purple stretch, but it let go about 3 cranks into the battle.

After finding some decent bottom at my numbers we tried a little up and down without much success except for some knot head black sea bass. We then plotted course out to some 60 foot stuff I wanted to look at, but the bottom never showed except some hard stuff and we managed some squirrelfish baits for our final stopping spot, which I knew had decent bottom. Ran back in to around 45 ft and trolled my final area to find fish and or good spots to anchor. After messing around a the first stop for an hour with only shorts and a little king to show for our efforts we moved a little to another good spot we saw while trolling and re-anchored right on it. we got good hits immediately on the first drop. However, almost every fish was 21.5 inches though it turned on somewhat it was getting late and we managed to push the time to leave about a half hour further and it paid off with a nice 25 inch gag to end the day.

Overall a great time with my friend and what a way to spend a Wednesday! Seas were mixed up 2.5/3 ft. Wind almost all day out of the SE until of course we started heading home, we managed around 33 mph back to the ramp.
After fish cleaning, boat and ourselves we stopped at Hook Wreck Henrys in Panacea for grub and made it to the house by 11PM whew what a long day but well worth it!
Tight lines -Joe
