Got out around 1pm on Sunday. The launch was a little busy but man was it packed with mullet. We throw the cast net and had all we needed for live and cut bait in short order. The winds were a blowin and I've got a small john boat so we putted .3 of a mile east to the oyster bar in front of the lighthouse. The tide was very high so the bar had good coverage and there were lots of mullet jumping around. We tossed a few mullet out and waited. A few short sharks founds us and that was about it. I've recently learned to use my ultra light with a small fly hook and gulps to catch pin fish, but the pins were being quite picky today and only managed to get one on board. This one produced a nice 20in trout very quickly so we realized that today the pins were going to be the ticket. So we cut some very small chunks of meat out a mullet and we instantly started catching pins. In a matter of minutes we had a dozen pins of all sizes. These helped to produce a 21in and 16in trout. I like live bait so today was a great learning experience mullet=pins=nice trout. My last outing to this area was productive also, even with all the constant boat traffic in the area... Last trip was by myself and I released a nice 23in as I had a 21in and 18in in the box already, all caught on pin fish.

Sounds like good sizes. I use Pinfish 90% of the time for Trout. Finger mullet live or Cut mullet strips for reds 95% of the time. Lures very seldom. Catch more with lures, catch bigger with fresh bait. Thats just my own preference. Since I'm meat fishing most of the time, :lick: not tournament, I prefer the laid back experence I have with Live bait over chunking my poor old arthritic arms off with lures. Another reason I quit Bass tournaments many moons ago.
