Down on the river

I dont really know where this belongs as its an out of state post but ill just put in freshwater. My dad took work off tuesday and we headed down to fredericksburg, va to go chase some catfish and maybe get into some bass. The river here is definately very diverse. The rappahannock is a mountain stream starting in the blue ridge of western va and flows all the way to the chesapeke bay. We started the day below fredericksburg fishing the outgoing tide and got into a mess of blue cats. Most were shorter then a foot all caught on livers but we did get a few that beat 5lbs. Always a good fight on light tackle and made the drag pull a little bit. Once the tide slakened up we headed up river to the fall line about 3 miles upstream. This was one heck of a paddle right into the wind but to fish from swamp to mountain stream in 3 miles is worth the paddle. We starting looking for shad but they had vanished up river and we began the float back to the downtown ramp. With this we figured maybe some largemouth of smallmouth bass would show up and figured the chance of finding stripers was slim to none. So we starting casting 7.5" red culprit worms into fast moving current. Bam! first cast the drag is going. Nothing huge but a good fight none the less. This got me real amped up and we slayed the entire float home. We ended up with 11 stripers to 16" all schoolies but fun none the less. In addition to the stripers one fat bluegill, and 9 blue cats. Heading down south on friday. Ready to find some reds.
