We finally ventured to new water for us and it paid off. We have had the boat 1 year now and only been out of St. Marks. We were tired of all the shorts that seem to be holding over by the light house and decided to try new water. Put in at Lanark early Sunday morning. We were unsure exactly where to go from there but we tried a few places before we found our spot fo the day. The bite was on and furious. As soon as the bait hit the water we were reeling something in. Out only about 3 hours and we had 9 trout (3 of them almost 20") the others well over 15, and 1 Spanish. We would have stayed longer but a storm ran us off. The day was great, the bite was great and can't wait to try it again. Everything was caught in about 6 feet of water on gulps of all colors both with and without a CT. We also caught plenty of lady fish, a catfish, lizard fish and a few blues. Water was calm first thing and got a little choppy as the storm came in but that is when the bite started.

Good for you. Now where exactly is this spot you found holding these upper slot fish? And, when are you guys going to fish a club tournament?

Not bad QB. New water + big fish = great times.

If you're fishing for trout only around the lighthouse then
that's pretty much all you're going to get is small trout.
You have to go explore other areas. Pay attention to
Turtle grass, and different depth changes.

We have always put the boat in on the St Marks river and ran out to the light house area to fish. We have been over to the rock garden and fished all around that area too. Trouble has been with all this wind lately and $4.00/gallon gas, it makes for a long rough ride out and back. Lanark was great because we didn't have to run very far before we started catching good fish. As many people on here know, my boat takes 3' to run in, so that does limit the ramps I use and rules out some ramps completely. It is great fun to try something new, especially when it works out good!
