As above so I am looking for local Gadsden county fishing spots besides Lakes Talquin and the big S. Talquin (seem as big as my Yak) gators just are not afraid enough for me to enjoy being there.

Yeah, I've read everywhere how statistically "safe" it is to kayak around gators but the first few times I took mine down to the Ochlocknee I had multiple big-a$$ gators surface right beside me. They appeared to just be looking and trying to figure it out, but if they don't know to be scared of it, then I'm with you. Stick to a boat. Not sure about other Gadsden fishing, though.

Alligators can jump out of the water a distance that is equal to their body length. How deep a kayak do you plan on using?

Just found out that all private pond owners in Gadsden County have quit allowing people to fish. Even the interlake pay to fish pond(s) have been allowed to dry up due to the dam failing. According to my source the owners just got tired of cleaning up the mess some people leave behind.
So that leaves Talquin and a few ponds on Gov land...sad. How long till Leon County owners follow suit? My source claims to know every land owner personally for years and her family cannot fish either.
Any one confirm all this

Yes, unfortunately, some places in Leon county have developed the "closed" mind set, too! The Panther Creek Sod Farm (that use to be our FBBF free fishing hole) is now CLOSED due to owner concerns about being "sued" (as a result of the drowning incident that transpired on Crowder Gravel Pit property a few weeks ago).

My problem is like many others of you in that the rising cost of fuel to make my boat run (or any other fishing partner's boat) is now keeping me close inshore on the salt water, looking for fresh water places close to town, and killing my abilities to donate time and money for treasured events (such as Big Bend Classic, Hands Helping Anglers, & other simular fishing agendas).

But, at least we can fish in some selected waters, for now, until the gas prices become so elivated (I hear figures projected as high as $6-$8.00/gal.) in the near future that most of us will just have to park our boats and find something else to do.

Of course, some people will subscribe to the NRA's motto of "pry the weapon out of my cold, dead hands" mentality, eh?

I believe in prayer...so, let us pray for ending the higher fuel pricing, at least.

The station manager where I buy gas told me that they expect 5-6 dollars by July 4 and 7-8 by Labor day and 10 by Christmas.
He also told me some things I didnt know such as. Most stations dont "own" the gas they sell and as such make 3 cents "profit per gallon. Thats profit before paying for the electicity for the pumps. Those station that "own" the gas get 25 cents per gallon. He went to a managers meeting in Jax and they calculated that if the major oil companies just gave up half of their billions in profits that the consumer would only be paying 50 cents per gallon for gas. Time for fuel cells.....dare I say it governmennt ownership of petroleum industry....after all its OUR natural resource.
Sorry this I guess relates to more than fishing.

Maybe it is time for a bit of good news (instead of cursing our fate in elivated gas prices)? I'm given to believe (sources of information varies so I shall not quote any) that the price of gas
may begin to fall as a result of the "truckers" threatening to strike because of the rising fuel costs.

Now, is not that an interesting scenerio? Maybe the "big oil companies" have decided that enough profit has been acrued and it may be time to settle back to some lesser gas prices?

Can you imagine what would happen to this country IF the "truckers" went on strike!

And, it might now be just the 18-wheelers...how about the railroads? Air delivery?

You think we are in a recession now - please, not the "D": word.

Okay, enough, but I just wanted to get on the "bright side" for a change instead of letting all this nasty elongated gas pricing mess up our fishing plans, okay.
