Mashes sands

Put in at mashes sands landing at about 9:00am and headed into the bay. Caught hundreds of baitfish in the castnet, to try a little live bait chummin. Pulled up to random undisclosed location, and anchored. Started throwing handfulls of bait fish out, and hooked a couple under CT's. Caught a couple of shorts, and one keeper, then decided to pull the anchor and drift. We threw topwater, and picked up a few more keepers. Then we decided to go out of the bay to check out the action along the beach. Caught one more keeper, just shy of 20in, on a jig tipped with fish bites. At this point the sea was starting to become a little unfriendly, so we slipped back into the bay. Cast netted some more bait and anchored up in another random undisclosed location. There, we proceeded to catch a few more trout, some short, and a nice flounder. The whole time we fished at this last spot, a pesky cobia kept stealing our live bait. Every time we got to the pole fast enough for a hookset, he would spit the bare hook out, then angrily thrash the surface in protest of what we had tried to do. This went on for hours, after all who could just leave with a big Cobe circling there boat. Finally, just before dark, my reel equipped with 15# test started to scream. My heart raced as I set the hook, and for the first time felt him there. Just a split second later, the line was slack and I knew I had been cut off. Two seconds after that, the fish crashed through the surface again, only this time he came completly out of the water, to show us what we had missed, and man I don't know how big those fish can get, but WOW, this one was at least six foot, and as thick as he was, I guess he would have gone a hundred pounds. Oh well, maybe we will meet again down the road.
Any how the totals are as follows:
Trout- 5 keepers 16-20 around as many shorts.
Flounder- 1 19in
Ladyfish- 4
Catfish- 6
Gar- 1
StingRay- 1
Cobia- fattened one up for next trip
P.S. any one got any tips for this area, today was my first time fishing there, and I will be fishing there again next weekend.
Thanks in advance, Fish Masterson
