Got a late start due to a tire problem on the trailer - got on the water about 8:30AM. Not a lot of tide moving out there. I have fished this area exactly three times before in my life. Holiday weekend with the gogans out in force. Not looking good right?
I had one of the better trout days of my life. I had a trout straight limit with a 21 high. (21, 20, 19, 18 and 17). Furthermore we released multiple 17in+ fish after the straight limit was in the box. We actually got tired of catching trout.
Fished around Turkey Point Shoal. Can't tell you exactly where I was because I don't really know how to describe it (I never fish there). Just found a break where the shoal dropped down to deeper water on the South side and threw MirrOlures (she dawg, mirrOdine, 51MR18). Caught a nice one on a soft plastic jerkbait as well. Saw a couple tarpon too. When flipper showed up I moved around with the big motor.
My partner wanted to head out to DIS and catch some spanish so we ran out there. About 1:30PM the SW wind was starting to brew. We bounced out there and commenced fishing.
Caught a few trash fish then my buddy plants a Nylure in his finger hard. Hook totally embedded. So I tried the heavy line loop trick and it works! FYI. I had a hook in my hand about 8 weeks ago and I should have done this thing instead of forcing it through a la John Wayne.
Just had the trout fried for dinner. It was good.
