Catfish Fever

Post by Capt Reggie »

:smt006 Good morning, all! I'm up early @ 4:30 (yeah, you think?) getting ready to launch my first adventure in quest of some big catfish. Anybody out there chase these grouper sized whisker fish? :smt007 If so, I would like some advice, as I am learning the sport from the "seat of my pants". :P My partner & I are headed over to the Upper Flint River section (below Bainbridge) this morning to try our luck. I'm told that the Flathead Catfish (our prime species)are fairly common throughout the Lake Seminole region. I'm also given to believe that the big Blue and Channel cats like to eat the same baits as the Flatheads (live Bream, Shad, Shiners, Suckers, etc.). :lick: Soooooo, I'll give a report by tomorrow and, hopefully, some of you out there in cat land can educate me as to what the heck I'm suppose to be doing correctly in searching out and catching these huge kitty cats!

Catch some bream, hook him to some 100# line that's attached to a 4/0 grouper rig and wait and hang on :-D  Good luck

Capt. Reggie,
I've cought a few nice flatheads behind the dam in Chattahoochee. Like Weavans said, bream is the bait of choice (and it is legal according to FWC regulations). I've had most luck fishing just inside and around the lock on or close to the bottom. The gar can be a problem and you're also likely to catch a striper. You will need stout tackle and a good aeration system to keep your bream alive.

Good luck
