Keaton 5/31-6/1/08

I have a fish fry planned for my work crew as an appreciation for their hard work planting cotton plots in the last 3 weeks. With the help of Ddb and Calvin, the plan was to round up enough trout to feed about 15 people.
On Saturday, we spend the day south of the channel markers with the hope that we would limit out on trout early and then spend some time at Steinhatchee reef and beyond. The trout fishing was slow probably because the area from piney point and the south birdrack resembled Tifton Walmart parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. By around 2 pm, we had caught only 4 trout and a flounder, so the idea of going deeper was scraped and headed north to find more trout. Plus NOAA lied about the forecast. This turned out to be a good more as we ended up with 11 before calling it a day, including 2 that were around 21''. We were fishing in 6-7' water and Calvin was killing the fish with gulp on a jig, out fished Ddb and I almost by 2 to 1.

On Sunday, we were under pressure to produce as we need fish for the fish fry. We decided to fish north to our more familiar territory. With the rising tide in the morning (hight tide was at noon), we expect the fishing to be good in the morning. However, the bite was consistent but slower than expected. Also, the quality of fish we caught was not as good on Saturday but I got lucky landing a nice 23''.
By noon, as the tide started going out, the action heats up. Dave's got it all started. This one was taking out a lot of line, probably a good spanish:
Red in 5' of water :scratch: A good one too about 24''.
Right after Dave landed his red, Calvin started to get really quiet. He was in total focus; he wanted a red too.... then, out of a sudden, we heard reel screaming on the bow. Fish On! Definitely not a trout, and giving him a fit:

and out came another red - right at 24'' as well:
We caught a few more slot size trout and then Dave hooked up and landed another red. A little smaller at 22' but it's a keeper, which complete our limit of red. Before we were done talking about we don't need to catch anymore red, Calvin's drag started screaming again.
Another nice red.
This one was bigger than Dave's. We took a few minutes for the "Kodak moments" and set it free.
We caught our last slot size trout and quit at around 3 pm with enough fish for a fish fry - mission accomplished! Calvin proudly showing his his first spanish in front of what we took home for the weekend.
Here's someone who thought they're is more important than us, running about 50 yards in front of our drift.
We were fishing on 4-5' water and most of the fish were caught on pinfish. Most fish were caught between the last hour of the incoming and a couple hours of the outgoing tide. Water temperature was already in the mid 80s, so get out there if you can before they started to slow down due to the high water temp.

I believe a good time was had by all. BTW, the flounder was delicious 
Looks like you have got Keaton down pat. Did you ever try deeper water 8-10'?
