NFGFC June Meeting Recap and Pictures
Posted: June 7th, 2008, 4:13 am
We met at Beef's Thursday night for some food, fellowship, and fishing talk. 75 people showed up to hear Larry Sanders, CairoTrout's dad, talk about flounder. The meeting was opened up by Jumptrout51 with general announcements. A report on the club's finances was provided by Mike Scibelli and the club has plenty of money in the bank...a good thing. Dan from Advantage Marine spoke about some of the new services that A.M. is offering - boat storage, the store will be expanding as well and will offer more saltwater and freshwater fishing supplies.
Capt. Keith Cardin, representing Bass / Saltwater Assassin spoke about the new products that have come out. Several new colors in the 7 inch jerkbait were shown and handed out. Thanks Cheesy!
Tin Can gave a recap of the points standing and the results from the last tournament.
Our featured speaker was Larry Sanders who spoke about catching flounder. Larry told us that flounder might be one of the toughest species in our area to target and consistently catch. A quick survey of the room showed that only a few had ever even caught a one person day's limit. Mr. Sanders opened with facts about flounder in Florida. There are two prevalent species that are found in the area...those found on the East Coast are a lot bigger than the ones found around our area. He told us that his favorite way to catch flounder is by using a carolina rig, fished sloooooow around any moving water, especially that found around structure - oyster bars, etc. Larry has had the most success with an approximate 20" leader between the weight and the circle hook holding the worm. Larry sometimes likes to wacky rig his soft jerkbait and really likes the flutter that the wacky rig provides. Mr. Sanders showed off a sampling of his favorite flounder baits and pictures will follow. Larry's main point was that when you think you're fishing slooow for flounder, slow it down even more.
It was a great meeting, several great prizes were given away from our sponsors, Polar Bear Coolers, bite-a-bait, hogy lures, Mirrolures, Advantage Marine, South Georgia Outdoors, Capt. Mikes. Thanks to our sponsors.
It was a great meeting, already looking forward to the next one!
