Fast question ! What's a good fly vise ? I know several of you tie flys....I got a Cabela special made in India..Probably worth exactly what I paid for it which wasn't much...I'm beginning to see how a quality vise will improve your efforts..Found a sandbar in a creek last Thurs just at high tide swarming with reds.. Couldn't get one to hang on to a spoon..Figured they woulda tore a clouser or slider up.Especially something that had some orange and brown in it to imitate a small crab. Been trying to tie up some since then...

I tied on one of them vises for three years...it will serve the purpose...I currently use this vise -
http://www.anvilusa.com/The_Atlas_Vise.htm. I will probably buy their cheaper vise for a traveling vise.
Biggest thing is hook holding power, if it has plastic on it don't buy it

I'm in the same boat. I'm tyeing with the el'cheapo Cabelas kit I got a few years ago. It's good enough I guess but since I've been tyeing some 1/0 and larger flies the jaws have lost a little holding power. Next vice will be a Renzetti travel vise.

Danvise. You can pick one up for about $79 and they are pretty solid for the money.

I'm tying with an old Thompson model "A" I got off ebay - great for small flies, but the jaws have a hard time with the bigger flies. You can't beat it for the money, though.
