Econfina 6/7/08

I went to see Jimmy Buffett in Atlanta Thursday night with my golfer buddy T-Bird and our wives. We talked about the flats because he had never been and a trip to Bass Pro Shops on the way back spurred a trip to the Big Pond! We left Sylvester at 5am on Saturday and headed to Econfina. I noticed the sun was up and bright by the time we were in Monticello, we should have left earlier. We got to the ramp and put in and headed to put some pinfish in the bucket. As usual they were biting, TBird has never been to flats so I was hoping to show him a good time and he enjoyed the pinfish bite. We started with a cajun thunder and had a few shorts hit between 12-14 inches. I was surprised at all of the rock bass, they always feel like a shark on the other end. Several times I hollered "Get the net!!" and it was a 10 inch rock bass on the other end
. I would like to see how a 10lb rock bass would fight!
We also caught several sail cats and spanish mackerel. The majority of our fish were caught on a 1/2 ounce jig head in deeper water. We would get bites in 6-9ft and it would shut off in the 3-4ft range? We caught 2 at the 20 inch mark which was awesome for me. We bumped into Team Bad Behavior on the water on a spot I had marked on my GPS so I knew we must be doing something right if the pro's were at our hole. That boat looks huge when you pull up to it in a jon boat!
We brought home 5 keeper trout that was just enough for supper tonight for the 4 of us.
